About Open Graph Generator

Open Graph Generator is a free online tool that creates the complete set of Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags needed for rich link previews on social media. Enter your page title, description, image URL, and page URL — the tool outputs a ready-to-paste HTML block that controls exactly how your page looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, WhatsApp, Slack, and other platforms.

The Open Graph protocol was created by Facebook in 2010 and has since been adopted by virtually every major social platform and messaging app. When someone shares a URL, the platform's crawler visits the page, reads the Open Graph tags in the <head>, and uses them to build a preview card showing a title, description, and image. Without OG tags, platforms fall back to guessing — often picking the wrong image, a truncated page title, or showing no preview at all.

The four essential Open Graph tags are og:title (the title for the preview card — can differ from the page title), og:description (2–3 sentence summary displayed below the title), og:image (the preview image — 1200×630 px recommended for optimal display across platforms), and og:url (the canonical URL of the page). Additional tags like og:type (website, article, product), og:site_name, and og:locale provide richer context.

Twitter Cards are Twitter's equivalent of Open Graph tags. Twitter looks for its own twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image tags first, then falls back to the equivalent OG tags. The twitter:card tag accepts summary (small image), summary_large_image (full-width header image), app (app store links), or player (video/audio). For most content, summary_large_image is the best choice as it generates the most visually prominent card.

A compelling og:image is the single biggest driver of social engagement. Posts with large, relevant images receive dramatically more clicks and shares than those without. The image should be at least 1200×630 px (minimum 600×315 px), be visually descriptive of the content, and include your brand. Use a consistent image template across your site to build visual brand recognition in social feeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

1200×630 px is the recommended size — it displays correctly on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and WhatsApp. The minimum is 600×315 px. Images below the minimum may not render a preview at all.

Twitter falls back to OG tags if Twitter Card tags are absent, but setting both gives you more control. Twitter-specific tag values (like twitter:card type) cannot be set via OG tags alone.

Yes, and sometimes it should be. The og:title is optimised for social sharing engagement — it can be more casual or hook-driven — while the page title is optimised for SEO. Many sites use the same value for simplicity.

Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger (developers.facebook.com/tools/debug), the LinkedIn Post Inspector, or the Twitter Card Validator to preview and validate your tags.
