About GST Calculator
GST Calculator is a free online tool that calculates the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on any transaction. Enter a price and a GST rate — the tool instantly computes the GST amount and the total price with GST included, or reverse-calculates the pre-GST price from a GST-inclusive total.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on the manufacture, sale, and consumption of goods and services in India, replacing multiple cascading taxes including VAT, service tax, and excise duty. It was introduced on 1 July 2017. GST is a destination-based tax, meaning it is collected at the point of consumption rather than the point of production.
GST in India operates under five rate slabs: 0% (essential goods like fresh food, milk, salt), 5% (basic necessities like edible oils, tea, domestic LPG), 12% (processed foods, computers, medicines), 18% (standard rate for most goods and services including electronics, financial services, telecom), and 28% (luxury goods, automobiles, tobacco, aerated drinks). Some special goods attract a GST Compensation Cess on top of the 28% rate.
GST has three components depending on the type of transaction. CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply equally on intra-state transactions — each is half the applicable GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) applies on inter-state transactions and equals the full GST rate. For a transaction attracting 18% GST: intra-state is 9% CGST + 9% SGST; inter-state is 18% IGST.
To add GST to a price: GST Amount = Price × (GST Rate ÷ 100); Total = Price + GST Amount. To remove GST from an inclusive price: Original Price = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100); GST Amount = Inclusive Price − Original Price.

Frequently Asked Questions
GST Amount = Price × 0.18. Total with GST = Price × 1.18. For example: ₹1,000 + 18% GST = ₹1,000 × 1.18 = ₹1,180 total; GST amount = ₹180.
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are levied on intra-state (within the same state) transactions — each component is half the applicable rate. IGST (Integrated GST) is levied on inter-state transactions at the full rate. The total tax burden is the same in both cases.
Items in the 0% slab include fresh/unprocessed food, milk, curd, eggs, fresh vegetables and fruits, salt, books, children's drawing books, and several essential services like healthcare and education.
Original Price = Inclusive Price ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100). Example: ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST → Original Price = ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000.
