Use papers to diagnose, then improve

Start with official released EC question papers and answer keys. Use the current official syllabus to identify relevant topics; older papers can reflect older syllabi or formats. Attempt questions before reading solutions.

Topic practice

After learning a topic, solve a short set without notes. Label each miss: concept gap, wrong model or assumption, algebra/arithmetic, unit conversion, misreading, or time pressure. Write the corrected reasoning, not only the answer letter. Re-solve after a gap.

Full mocks

Practice a complete 180-minute attempt with 65 questions and 100 marks, using the official question types and marking rules. Use the virtual calculator rather than a calculator unavailable in the exam. During review, record marks lost by cause, time spent on abandoned attempts and unanswered questions you could solve afterward.

Marking example

Suppose a practice attempt has 12 correct 1-mark MCQs, 3 wrong 1-mark MCQs, 8 correct 2-mark MCQs and 3 wrong 2-mark MCQs. The MCQ contribution is 12 − 3/3 + 16 − 2×3/3 = 25 marks. Add marks from correctly answered MSQ and NAT questions separately. Wrong MSQ and NAT answers attract no negative marks; MSQ has no partial credit. These rules do not make uncertain answers a substitute for preparation.

Turn results into a plan

For each mock choose two or three specific repairs: revise a concept, redo a derivation, practice a small problem set or change your time-allocation strategy. A score alone does not tell you what to study. Preserve unseen papers for later realistic attempts.

Common mistakes

Memorizing options, treating a coaching key as authoritative when an official final key exists, comparing ranks across unrelated mock cohorts, and taking repeated tests without analyzing errors.
